Women with alopecia

Women with alopecia
You do not hear statements about women with alopecia as much as you hear talks about men with the condition. Alopecia is the loss of hair on different parts of your body where hair resides. Many women do not notice they are losing their hair until the hair begins to leave their scalp. The hair loss can be permanent or it can be something that is temporary. If the condition is temporary the hair will normally begin to fall out and then seamlessly begin growing on its own again. There are three main reasons primarily why women with alopecia even come into occurrence. The first one is they have a small case of the alopecia areata which is classified as losing your hair in a patch. Normally alopecia areata will look as if it is circular. Many women will also begin to lose their hair during menopause. Hormones are already raging at this state of time in a woman’s life, and frankly her body is going a million miles a minute so a little hair loss can be expected. However the most common cause of women with alopecia has been deemed to be oversensitivity to the testosterone hormone. When women have too much of this hormone circulating through their body they are opt to develop traits that men have such as baldness and in some circumstances beard as well as mustaches. It is easy to find out what levels the hormone is at within your own body by visiting your doctor and perusing through women who are a part of your immediate family. Normally if a few of the women who are in your family are dealing with aloipecia, there is a chance that someday you will be to. As far as treatment options go for women with alopecia there are a few different avenues that you can take. The first is to find a doctor that may be able to prescribe some medications for you to take to see if that will help you battle the condition. Minoxidil has been a common drug that doctor’s have been avidly been prescribing women to try to fight this onset case of female pattern baldness. Results will vary from person to person. Women are also opting to get corticosteroids injected into the spot where hair has ceased to grow. The steroids are supposed to wake up the dormant hair and cause it to begin its normal cycle of growth. If all else fails you can always try different hair styles and things of that nature that will be able to cover the bald patches. Many women would never dream of trying this and simply living with the condition, but in some cases you may not have a definite choice.

Difference between bpd and bipolar disorder

Filed under: Health Information — admin at 10:50 am on Saturday, April 16, 2011

Difference between bpd and bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder which is relatively common around the world and is found in both men and women. As a mental condition bipolar disorder is characterised by extreme and unusually long mood changes that swing between mania and depression. Both the moods are associated with specific symptoms which are largely changes in behaviour and emotions. However a lot of the symptoms of bipolar disorder are those which are found in several other conditions also, including Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Due to this, many people tend to confuse BPD for bipolar disorder, when in fact they are two completely different conditions and there are many differences between BPD and Bipolar disorder. Borderline Personality Disorder mainly involves distortions in cognition. This change in the cognition gives rise to most of the other symptoms of BPD. One of the primary symptoms of borderline personality disorder is self-injury. This symptom is also seen in Bipolar disorder, but the difference between BPD and bipolar disorder in this relation is that in bipolar disorder the self-injury is more the result of suicidal ideation (severe depression) or hallucinations or delusions (severe mania). Bipolar disorder is basically mood changes, which is also a symptom of BPD. However the difference between BPD and bipolar disorder is that while mood episodes in bipolar disorder can last up to several weeks and even months, in BPD the mood change lasts for a couple of hours. Another difference between BPD and bipolar disorder is that while bipolar disorder requires a presence of both mania (or hypomania) and depressive episodes, BPD symptoms mainly involve symptoms of depression keeping in line with distorted cognitions and even if there is a positive feeling, its tepid at best. Also in those with bipolar disorder, the mood changes are spontaneous and can occur out of nowhere while in those with BPD, the mood shifts are generally due to an external stressor like an argument with a parent etc. One of the biggest difference between BPD and bipolar disorder is one symptom that isn’t common – patients with BPD live with a profound fear of being abandonment. People with bipolar disorder do not have this symptom. Another major difference between BPD and bipolar disorder is that psychotic symptoms (hallucinations and delusions) are very often exhibited in severe cases of bipolar disorder while these are absent in those with BPD. Instead people with BPD function largely from the belief that they are worthless and no good and will be abandoned. Differences between BPD and bipolar disorder can also be seen in the treatment method. For bipolar disorder medication works best along with conventional therapies like behavioural, cognitive etc though they aren’t always the best option. For BPD however, Dialectical behaviour therapy (which was specially designed for BPD) works best though medication is also required.

Intracranial hypertension

Filed under: Health Information — admin at 4:05 pm on Thursday, April 14, 2011

Intracranial hypertension
Intracranial hypertension is the common name give to disorders caused due to blood pressure that affects the cerebrospinal fluid pressure within the brain. This is an uncommon disease. It may be found affecting 1 in 100,000 people. The intracranial hypertension is found mainly affecting women. The onset of this disease can be approximately considered to be in the late 20s. This occurs suddenly and the cause goes unclear. Occasionally, it is associated to brain tumors. The common symptom for intracranial hypertension is severe headache. Such headaches do not get relieved with anything and leads to vision disturbance as well. Apart from this intracranial hypertension also causes loss of concentration or memory, dizziness, disorientation, pins and needles pricked feeling in the hands and vomiting. The diagnosis of intracranial hypertension is done by scanning the brain and by measuring the pressure of CSF. Based on this CSF pressure, the treatment varies. The medical treatment includes drugs such as carbonic anhydrase inhibitors taken in high doses. This is done to suppress the CSF production. This may have side effects and if some medical therapy happens to fail and your vision is at risk, then two types of surgery can be undergone to rectify. The first type of surgery is done by opening a nerve sheath. This is done to lessen the swelling and the second type of surgery is the neurosurgical shunt. These tubes are embedded so that the CSF gets drained into another cavity like abdomen. The intracranial hypertension occurs when the fluid is under severe pressure. The brain area is filled with fluid like water and if much fluid is present, the pressure increases owing to lack of space for expansion. The causes are yet not fully diagnosed but for some clues. Mostly, pregnant women experience such blood pressures and this worsens owing to weight gain. However, intracranial hypertension is caused owing to weight gain and any disorder blocking the spinal fluid flow in the route of the blood and the brain caused raised pressure. Such blood clots drain the brain causing elevated intracranial pressure. This leads to severe blood pressure levels. This can also be caused due to steroids withdrawal or owing to intake of considerable Vitamin A. even steroids for body building and other drugs like tetracycline also enhance the possibilities of increasing the blood pressure. Blood pressure can be controlled and intracranial hypertension can be accomplished by monitoring the blood pressure and following the medications so that the effects are minimized.

Personal cosmetic surgery

Filed under: Health Information — admin at 6:33 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2011

Personal cosmetic surgery
Today, there exists a multitude of personal cosmetic surgery procedures, from microdermabrasion to botox injections to lip plumping to breast augmentation. One of the most significant kinds of personal cosmetic surgery that exists today is outpatient personal cosmetic surgery, where no hospitalization is required. Many personal cosmetic surgery procedures that used to require hospitalization no longer do. Facelifts, facial implants, and even breast augmentation are now outpatient personal cosmetic surgery procedures. And, as technology improves and these personal cosmetic surgery procedures become even more popular, more and more procedures will become outpatient procedures. The benefit of outpatient personal cosmetic surgery is that there is less “down time.” The procedures are less invasive than they used to be. Thus, someone who has an outpatient personal cosmetic surgery procedure done may only miss one day of work instead of a week as he or she would have in the past. Additionally, many personal cosmetic surgery clinics offers procedures on Fridays that enable the patient to recover over the weekend and may even be able to go to work on Monday. In this fashion, a patient may only miss an afternoon at work, if anything at all. Another benefit of outpatient personal cosmetic surgery is that it is less expensive. Hospitalization in personal cosmetic surgery procedures can add thousands of dollars to a patient’s bill, especially when there it is a multi-day hospital stay. With an outpatient personal cosmetic surgery procedure, the patient only has to pay for the doctor’s services and the actual procedure, which causes the bill to be much lower. Additionally, as outpatient personal cosmetic surgery procedures are less invasive and are easier to heal from, they are usually “smaller,” less expensive procedures. And as technology improves, these procedures will just continue to become less expensive. Though outpatient personal cosmetic surgery procedures sound less dangerous than traditional inpatient personal cosmetic surgery, complications can still arise from them. Moreover, because patients recover at home instead of in a hospital or other facility that affords the doctor ample opportunities to check on his or her patient, outpatient personal cosmetic surgery can actually be more dangerous. A patient may not know whether the swelling at his her surgery site is a normal sign of healing or is a sign of a dangerous infection. The best way to prevent complications from an outpatient personal cosmetic surgery procedure is to fully research the procedure, the facility where you are going to have the procedure done, and the physician whom is going to perform your procedure. Going for higher quality facilities and doctors is usually the best route, though they are often more expensive, because you will have fewer complications. Additionally, make sure to follow every single instruction your doctor gives you when he or she sends you home from your outpatient personal cosmetic surgery procedure.
